Within easy reach the Lake District makes an alternative day out, Ullswater is 3/4 hour drive away. The Scottish Borders, with Gretna Green and the world famous Old Blacksmiths Shop, one of Scotlandâs earliest visitor attractions is only a 15 minute drive and the area has historical connections to Robbie Burns the famous national Scottish Poet. Longtown the local border town has a traditional butchersâ shop, bakers and a convenience store for everyday needs, there are tea rooms, coffee shops and pubs serving local specialities.
