About this property

A heavenly retreat in the heart of the lively village of Bowness, this chic stone-built cottage has it all. Workshop Cottage has been beautifully updated, and the result is breath-taking. Designer finishes throughout, exposed stone walls, slate and wood flooring and superbly comfortable sofas and beds.

The entrance hall is on the ground floor, along with the first of the two gorgeous bedrooms. This is a luxury double with separate dressing room and seemingly endless storage space. The bathroom is a treat. A wet room with large designer bath and separate walk in shower.

Upstairs to a stunning open sitting room, beautiful leather sofas, large TV and surround sound. Doors open onto a private balcony, a real sun trap and the perfect breakfast spot. The kitchen is straight from the pages of a design magazine with exposed stonework and slate tiling, while top of the range appliances make meal preparation a joy. For a quick snack or glass of wine, the breakfast bar is an elegant addition. The master bedroom is on this floor. Fitted wardrobes, dressing table and glorious king size bed add up to early nights and lazy mornings.

Bowness itself is a fascinating place, bursting with lively restaurants and bars, a quirky cinema, Old Laundry Theatre, boutiques and independent shops. And then there’s the lake. A short stroll to the shore and guests will be spoilt for choice. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly for Ambleside, there are rowing boats and power boats to hire and a range of water sports on offer. Your break at Workshop Cottage can be exactly what you want it to be. A chilled weekend of stylish living and fine dining, or a week of adventure and excitement.

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is less than two miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There are also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and “Go-Ape” adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.

We had a couple of issues and they are. It doesn't state when advertising that the Westmorland Pub rear exit is next to the cottage entrance door. Staff us the entrance morning and night and slam the gates closed. The hallway light sensor doesn't work and the light is on continuously and no way to turn it off.
