About this property

Fieldgate Farmstead is perfect for big groups. Whether you're hosting a family reunion, accommodating guests or a wedding party, or planning to celebrate a milestone event, the late Georgian farmhouse and beautifully converted barn in Bampton near Shap is an ideal destination. There is space for 30 people to sleep in 15 stylish bedrooms, each with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The northern Lakeland fells are a favourite for walking and mountain biking. You're close to the River Lowther for fly fishing, and to Penrith, Carlisle, Ullswater, and the Scottish border for sightseeing. The farmhouse can be booked on its own for smaller groups of up to 16 people.

Fieldgate Farmstead is a large holiday home just outside the village of Bampton near Penrith in the Lake District National Park. The owners took two years to lovingly restore and renovate the farmhouse and barn to provide welcoming and comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to 38 people in 15 bedrooms plus four sofa beds. The size of the house, combined with the spectacular views and location within easy reach of the M6 and less than four miles to the village of Shap, makes it perfect for a group holiday with your extended family and friends, whether they're coming from England, Scotland, Wales, or even overseas via Manchester Airport. It's a great choice if you're looking for a suitable property for a reunion, accommodating wedding parties or out-of-town guests for a special event, or as the setting for a milestone birthday or an anniversary.

Bampton is in the Lowther Valley near the east Lakeland fells. It's close to the slow-flowing River Lowther (a favourite with dry fly anglers), four miles from Shap, ten miles south of Penrith and 30 miles south of Cumbria. There is a local village shop and cafe in Bampton, a Coop, cafe and pubs in nearby Shap and a variety of pubs, cafes, restaurants and big supermarkets in Penrith. Morrisons and Sainsbury's supermarkets deliver to the cottage. This region feels unlike any other part of the Lake District due to the wealth of natural limestone that has shaped the landscape and the lives of people who have lived here. There's a beautiful mix of architecture as seen in Fieldgate Farmstead - the barn's rustic exterior dates from the end of the 1600s while the Grade-II listed farmhouse has typical late-Georgian symmetry and features.

Things to do during your stay include walking a stretch of the Coast to Coast Walk that passes through nearby Shap, sailing or swimming in Ullswater. Haweswater Reservoir is a lovely spot within walking or cycling distance of the house, offering spectacular views and, when the water is low, a glimpse of the buildings of Measand and Mardale Green that were flooded to make way for the dam. You're only a few miles from the North Yorkshire Moors and less than an hour's drive from Keswick, Windermere, and Scafell Pike's base.

Fieldgate Farmstead is two properties - a farmhouse sleeping 16 people in eight bedrooms and a converted barn sleeping 14 people in seven bedrooms. You can book the properties separately for smaller groups. Please see the owner's website for more information.
